WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Hi everyone, it seems like I was just saying how awesome it was that school was finally out and right now I find myself saying that schools are starting back up within the week around CT. What happened to summer?
Did you manage to catch the Olympics and see the debut of BMX?
I sat for hours to catch a fraction of BMX, but, it's a start. The United States sent 4 riders and three of the four riders came back with a medal. Mike Day has a silver, Donny Robinson took the bronze and the gold went to Maris Strombergs out of Latvia. For the women, Jill Kintner took the bronze with the gold and silver going to France. Unfortunately, Kyle Bennet came home with a hurt shoulder.
Training for 2012 is well underway already.
We have one week left of the local and National seasons and I would not know what to do with my "extra" time, so Back 2 Basics, Falcon BMX will not have a break in the action and will be going directly into it's fall series. Which means more time to accumulate those Regional points before Woodward.
I have been very busy working with the Board of Directors planning the end of the season banquet. I can tell you that it is scheduled for Sunday, October 19 from 2-6 p.m. ; it will be held buffet style at George's II in Wallingford. So watch for your invite in the mail coming out to you soon!
This past Saturday Back 2 Basics, Falcon BMX had 106 riders, 36 motos and 1 main for the ever popular 9 Rookie class. It was great weather wise, no injuries and some seriously awesome drag races to the finish line.
Zach O'Neil was the rider of the week. His roots in Falcon go way back to the beginning as his grandfather was one of the original track builders. His late great uncle's name is etched in the stone on the shack as it was dedicated to him. I know because I was there with my dad. Now my kids are there.
Back 2 Basics, Falcon BMX is about preserving the history and guaranteeing the future of BMX, the present is just a bonus.
"Where's Lou" was back in the "Falcon's Nest" calling out the motos and happy to be back. We have had quite the variety of talent filling in for him while he was away or at work.
Wally Thomas is a favorite from the Trumbull/Bethel area. You'll usually see him out on the National circuit with his daughter Allison who rides in the Elite Women class.
We had my friend Frank Fermino who is tons of fun on the mike and so wild that you never know what he's up to. He even managed to switch his hours at work just because he knew we needed him.
And of course, we were lucky enough to even get Roger Plaskett from Foothills in Torrington to help us out and take care of business on the microphone like no other can.
Thank you so much for helping out when we needed you, the generosity of your time and dedication will not be forgotten.
As the fall season rolls in, we plan to continue with improvements as we are a work in progress track. Our numbers have gone up; our attitudes are positive, so there is no sense to stopping now!
If you have not done so yet, log on to www.NEASP.com and peep the pics that Glenn Curtis and his staff took. If you like what you see you can place an order and have it forever. The pics are only on the web till next week so find the time to get it done soon.
This is the crunch week in CT to get your final races in for the state championship. Make sure you get those pre-reg. forms filled out by September 1, there is still time to get it done at any of the 4 tracks or mail it in to Gail's mail box.
If you are heading out to Kentucky for the Grands, have a safe trip. I will be staying back this year for the first time in 6 years. My RV has a very thirsty gas tank!
So for those not going to Kentucky, you still got some races to hit in your home state! Trumbull T.R.A.C.K. on Tuesday, Bethel Supercross on Wednesday, Back 2 Basics, Falcon BMX on Saturday with a chili cook off at $10.00 per entry and the last race of the local season goes to Foothills in Torrington.
As always, Thursday is our work night at back 2 basics, Falcon BMX and starting at 6 p.m. is a Falcon Meeting, all are welcome to attend.
So if I don't see ya this week, let's count on Sunday, September 7 at Foothills in Torrington for the State Championship.
Take care, be safe and have a great week!
